چکیده

An iterated function system consisting of contractive similarity mappings has a unique attractor F ⊆ Rd which is invariant under the action of the system, as was shown by Hutchinson [Hut]. This paper shows how the action of the function system naturally produces a tiling T of the convex hull of the attractor. These tiles form a collection of sets whose geometry is typically much simpler than that of F , yet retains key information about both F and Φ. In particular, the tiles encode all the scaling data of Φ. We give the construction, along with some examples and applications. The tiling T is the foundation for the higher-dimensional extension of the theory of complex dimensions which was developed in [La-vF1] for the case d = 1.

Self-Replicating Tiles and Their Boundary

All self-replicating lattice tilings of the plane can be constructed using special iterated function systems (IFS). Certain self-replicating curves can be constructed using the recurrent set method (RS). A bijection between the IFS parameters and the RS parameters is such that the curve K produced by the RS parameters is the boundary of the tile T produced by the IFS parameters. The corresponde...

Dual Systems of algebraic iterated function systems, Rauzy fractals and β-tilings

Algebraic GIFS is a class of graph-directed iterated function systems (IFS) on R with algebraic parameters. A dual IFS of an algebraic GIFS can be constructed, and the duality between the two systems and has been investigated from various points of view. We review the results of dual IFS concerning the open set condition, purely periodic codings and the Rauzy-Thurston tilings, and their relatio...

Geometry of Canonical Self-similar Tilings

We give several different geometric characterizations of the situation in which the parallel set Fε of a self-similar set F can be described by the inner ε-parallel set T −ε of the associated canonical tiling T , in the sense of [16]. For example, Fε = T−ε ∪Cε if and only if the boundary of the convex hull C of F is a subset of F , or if the boundary of E, the unbounded portion of the complemen...

Fractal Tilings from Iterated Function Systems

A simple, yet unifying method is provided for the construction of tilings by tiles obtained from the attractor of an iterated function system (IFS). Many examples appearing in the literature in ad hoc ways, as well as new examples, can be constructed by this method. These tilings can be used to extend a fractal transformation defined on the attractor of a contractive IFS to a fractal transforma...

A Fractal Version of the Pinwheel Tiling

Dedicated to the inspiration of Benoit Mandelbrot. The pinwheel tilings are a remarkable class of tilings of the plane, and our main goal in this paper is to introduce a fractal version of them. We will begin by describing how to construct the pinwheel tilings themselves and by discussing some of the properties that have generated so much interest. After that we will develop the fractal version...
